How much does it cost to invoice in Mexico and how to work out your real cost.

What a stamp (folio) is, how invoicing systems charge, how to work out what each invoice really costs you, and Factura Digital prices with VAT included.

Summary

Invoicing costs what you pay for each stamped CFDI. The price per stamp goes down with volume, but your real cost depends on the model: if stamps expire or are lost every month, you also pay for the ones you didn't use. At Factura Digital a stamp costs from $12.00 (10-stamp package) to $1.20 (10,000-stamp package), in Mexican pesos with VAT included, and stamps never expire.

What a stamp (folio) is

Every electronic invoice (CFDI) needs a stamp: the certification an SAT-authorized provider (PAC) performs when it validates the invoice, assigns the fiscal folio (UUID), and adds the SAT seal. Without a stamp, the CFDI has no tax validity. How it works step by step is in What is a PAC.

Invoicing systems sell that certification by the unit. Depending on the provider it's called a folio, a stamp (timbre), or a credit, but it's the same thing: one stamped CFDI. Don't confuse it with two things that have similar names:

Fiscal folio (UUID)
The unique identifier each CFDI receives when stamped. You don't buy it: it comes with the stamp.
Internal series and number
The numbering you choose to sequence your invoices (for example, A-1024). It's optional and free.
Stamp you buy (folio)
The unit you pay your provider for. One stamp = one stamped CFDI.

What uses a stamp and what doesn't

The rule is simple: every stamped CFDI uses one stamp, whatever its type. Anything that isn't stamped doesn't. At Factura Digital:

Uses one stamp

  • Income invoice, including professional fees and rent
  • Credit note (egreso CFDI)
  • Payment complement (REP) for payments on PPD invoices
  • Payroll receipt: one per employee per pay period
  • Carta Porte, for transfer or income
  • Global invoice to the general public

Doesn't use a stamp

  • Canceling a CFDI
  • Resending a CFDI by email or WhatsApp
  • Downloading the XML, the PDF, or a ZIP
  • Checking a CFDI's status with the SAT

With any provider, ask whether cancellation uses a stamp or costs extra, and whether a corrected invoice is charged again.

How to estimate how many stamps you use

  1. Invoices and credit notes for the month
  2. + payment complements for your PPD invoices (usually one per payment received)
  3. + payroll receipts: employees × pay periods in the month (2 if you pay every two weeks)
  4. + Carta Porte documents

Example: an accounting firm with 40 invoices a month, 10 of them on credit (PPD) with one payment each, and 6 employees paid every two weeks uses 40 + 10 + 12 = 62 stamps a month, 744 a year. With the table below, that year is covered with 1 × 1,000 stamps for $3,000: $3.00 per stamp.

How the market charges

Without naming providers, these are the models you'll find. The advertised price per stamp isn't enough to compare them: what matters is what happens to the stamps you don't use.

ModelHow it worksWhat you don't useMakes sense if
Monthly plan with included stampsHow it worksYou pay a fee every month that includes a number of stamps; if you go over, you pay extra or move up a plan. What you don't useLost when the month closes.Makes sense ifYour volume is steady and you use nearly all of the plan's stamps every month.
Package with an expiry date (for example, 12 months)How it worksYou pay once for a number of stamps with an expiration date. What you don't useLost when they expire.Makes sense ifYou can estimate your yearly usage well.
Package that never expiresHow it worksYou pay once; the stamps stay in your account until you use them. What you don't useStill available.Makes sense ifYour volume changes by season or you don't know it yet.

Charges that add up

  • Optional subscriptions for advanced features
  • Additional users or RFCs
  • API access
  • Complements such as Carta Porte or Foreign Trade
  • Cancellation
  • Onboarding or priority support

How to work out your real cost per invoice

real cost per CFDI = total paid in the period ÷ CFDIs stamped in the period

What you pay includes fixed fees and subscriptions, not only stamps. And the CFDIs you stamp are the ones you actually used, not the ones the plan includes. Three cases, with the same logic for any provider:

Real cost vs. advertised price per stamp
  1. 2.5×

Monthly plan with 100 included stamps; you use 40 a month.

You pay for 100 and use 40: each invoice costs 2.5 times the plan's price per stamp.

  2. 1.67×

1,000-stamp package valid for 12 months; you use 600 in the year.

Each invoice costs 1.67 times the package's price per stamp, and 400 stamps are lost.

  3. 1×

1,000-stamp package that never expires; you use 600 in the year.

Each invoice costs the package's price per stamp. The remaining 400 stay in your account for next year.

If you also pay a fixed fee, divide it by your CFDIs for the period and add it to the price per stamp. With variable volume, stamps that never expire keep you from paying for what you don't use. With high, steady volume, compare the price per stamp of the large packages.

When Premium makes sense

You don't need Premium to invoice: you pay for stamps and your account works without a subscription. Premium makes sense if you go over the included limits for Carta Porte, Foreign Trade, or SAT sync, if your customers ask for addendas, or if you manage sub-accounts and want to transfer stamps to them.

To include it in your real cost, spread the subscription across your CFDIs. At 300 CFDIs a month, monthly Premium adds $1.50 per CFDI; the annual plan works out to $375 a month, or $1.25 per CFDI. The 15% discount on stamps lowers the other part of the cost.

Can you invoice for free?

Yes, with limits. There are three free options:

SAT invoicing service
On the SAT portal you can generate and stamp CFDI 4.0 with your SAT credentials. Manual entry, no integrations. It works for invoicing by hand a few times a month.
Each PAC's free application
The 2026 Miscellaneous Tax Resolution requires every authorized PAC to validate and certify, at no cost, CFDIs generated with its free application, which must be available to the public (rule 2.7.2.8, section VII).
10 free stamps at Factura Digital
When you sign up, one time only, no credit card. Use them to try the full system with your real data.

The free options cover the invoice itself. In a paid system you pay for the rest of the process: customer and product catalogs, automatic delivery, payment complements, collections, reports, API, and support.

FAQ about invoicing costs

How much does a stamp to invoice cost in Mexico?

It depends on the provider and on volume: the price per stamp goes down as you buy larger packages. At Factura Digital it ranges from $12.00 per stamp in the 10-stamp package to $1.20 per stamp in the 10,000-stamp package, in Mexican pesos with VAT included; stamps never expire.

How much does an electronic invoice cost?

What you pay for the stamp, plus a share of any fixed fee. To work it out, divide what you pay in a period by the CFDIs you stamp in that period. If your plan includes stamps that you lose when unused, your real cost per invoice goes up.

What is a folio or stamp for invoicing?

It's the unit you buy from your provider: one stamp (folio) equals one stamped CFDI. It is not the same as the fiscal folio (UUID), the identifier each CFDI gets when stamped, nor the internal series and number you use to sequence your invoices.

Does canceling an invoice use a stamp?

At Factura Digital, no: canceling doesn't use a stamp. With other providers, check the terms. If you then issue a corrected invoice, that new invoice does use a stamp.

Does a payment complement use a stamp?

Yes. The payment complement (REP) is a CFDI and gets stamped, so it uses one stamp. If you invoice on credit (PPD), count payment complements when you estimate your usage.

Do stamps expire?

It depends on the provider: there are plans whose stamps are lost every month, packages valid for 12 months, and packages that never expire. At Factura Digital, stamps never expire.

How much does Premium cost?

$450 a month or $4,500 a year, VAT included; the annual plan saves $900. Premium is an optional subscription: it removes the limits on features that have them, includes every addenda, and gives a 15% discount on stamps. Without Premium, your account keeps working with your stamps.

Is there a way to invoice for free?

The SAT offers a free invoicing service on its portal, and every authorized PAC must offer a free application (rule 2.7.2.8, section VII, 2026 Miscellaneous Tax Resolution). At Factura Digital you get 10 free stamps when you sign up, one time only, no credit card.

How many stamps do I need per month?

Add up your invoices and credit notes, the payment complements for your PPD invoices, payroll receipts (employees times pay periods), and Carta Porte documents. Each stamped CFDI uses one stamp.

How can I pay for stamps?

At Factura Digital, by card, OXXO, or SPEI bank transfer. Packages are one-time payments with VAT included.
